Cannabis. Infused. Alcohol.
That’s it, folks. The Future is now.
With the passing of recreational marijuana laws in eight states, it wasn’t surpising to think that more interesting cannabis-infused products would begin emerging onto the market. Case and point, Lagunitas “SuperCritical Ale”. Along with the cannabis-infused beer, Lagunitas has also unveiled its new line of “SuperCritical” vape cartridges. The California based brewing company has been known to have a, shall we say, taste for fine cannabis.
There are few brewing companies that have a more relaxed attitude towards cannabis than Lagunitas. Lagunitas’ former cannabis-flavored beer line “Kronik” was forced to be renamed after pressure applied by the California state government, so the line was renamed “Censored”. They also released a beer called “Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale” after the company was shut down in 2005 after the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control caught employees enjoying cannabis at a brewery event.
Lagunitas is partnering with AbsoluteXtracts to release both terpene-infused ale, as well as THC-infused vape cartridges with hop terpenes. Don’t trip, you won’t be overcome by the combined effects of alcohol and cannabis because SuperCritical Ale contains no THC. But, they do taste like marijuana, which is an interesting start. The vape cartridges on the other hand, contain both THC and terpenes extracted from hops.
This isn’t the first weed-infused beer to enter the market. Back in 2015, Dad and Dudes Breweria in Aurora, Colorado, released a beer called “General Washington’s Secret Stash IPA” that is infused with cannabinoids (but also no THC). In 2016, San Diego’s Thorn Street Brewery collaborated with Jetty Extracts to create “OG HighPA Session IPA”. This 4.2% IPA was infused with cannabis terpenes to add to the overall flavor of the hops.
Personally, I’m excited to try SuperCritical for myself. Although the new line is not yet available in the Sacramento area, I can imagine it will be available statewide in the near future. Furthermore, I think it’s safe to say the emering trend of cannabis-infused products has no end in sight, and I’m okay with that.
Will you be giving SuperCritical a try?
